Welcoming to Different Skies, an original science-fiction roleplay. Please mind the air locks and try not to get stuck in a vacuum.

"Humanity can survive, my friends. But it will take effort and it will take sacrifice. But first, we must rebuild the wheel to study these assailants from beyond. Any piece, any fragment of the Deus Pinnae that rears its head will be ours. Yamata 16 can no longer afford to linger in the shadows. If we must, we will take all of Bastion space in our grasps and ravage it until every metal sliver of the Pinnae is revealed... By any means necessary."

Jonathan Langdon.

Welcome to Different Skies! This thread will help guide you through the process of joining our board and familiarize you with where our information and what to expect when joining the board.

:: 00 - Please review our Site Rules!

:: 01 - Take a look at our site's Story and Timeline and our Setting Information. These will help you acclimate to the setting of our board.

:: 02 - When registering your account, please register with Firstname Lastname. If your character only has a designation (if they're an Automaton, for example), use that. If your character does not have a true name, use whatever they're called.

On names - We don't expect everyone to be named John Smith, but we'd like for names to actually sound like names. This isn't a fantasy board, so names like Faerya Brightflower aren't going to fly, but names like Jonothan Maize would. Remember, these are people from Earth! So long as they sound like a proper name, you should be good! For designations, something like AD-341 or an acronym such as IGNIS would work. And, if you have no last name, just use your first name.

:: 03 - Please use our Character Dossier Template when making your character. Do not change or add sections without permission. If the nature of your character and their history is questionable, please do not hesitate to contact staff!
While making your character, please reference the following links. They will help you in deciding what faction you wish to play, what kind of power you want, face claims, and everything that is essential to developing your character.

Banned Concepts - This list contains concepts that are banned for characters.
Face Claims - Who do you want your character to look like?
Factions - This link provides general descriptions of each major faction and group.
Power Archetypes - This thread describes power archetypes you can play within. There is a wide assortment of powers that can be adapted to fit into these archetypes.
A note on powers: Powers should be kept in the "street level" spectrum. Even a master of their abilities should be concerned when confronted with a group of fifteen well armed soldiers.
    Character Creation FAQS:
Where can I be from? Short answer? Anywhere except the Sol System (Earth's solar system). We're so far beyond that now!

You are welcome to be from any of the three primary areas: Bastion, the Neuros System, or Aeon System. However, these are only the areas that are the FOCUS of the board. In our setting, Bastion space encompasses more systems and colonies than we have fingers and toes combined. It's big and you can be from anywhere within it. Feel free to make something up, a planet name, solar system, the type of planet, etc.. The only hitch is that these places probably won't ever show up on the board as an official area.

Do I have to have an Archetype? No. You can be a typical human. For flavor's sake, you can have a small handful of implants that don't serve any more purpose than to replace limbs, eyes, etc.. You won't have space-powers, but you can hold your own with weapons and tech.

Can I be an alien? No. Sentient, playable aliens are not available to play.

What can I use for faceclaims? As stated in the rules, you can only use real-life images for Faceclaims. This generally includes actors, actresses, and models. You cannot use yourself, your friends, or any artwork to represent your character. The only exception is utilizing character representations for a non-human character such as a Hephaesti that would be incredibly difficult for photomanipulations. These would be characters like the Geth and EDI from Mass Effect, Ultron from Avengers AoU, GLaDOS from Portal, Megatron from Transformers, etc.. Just know that you will be limited in graphics if those are important for you. Images should be higher, realistic quality. More inhuman synthetics and graphics will be approved in a case-by-case.
:: 04 - Once you've got your template completed, you can post it IN THIS BOARD.

Staff will review your application as soon as they are able. If you need any help in the initial stages of your character creation, such as with the powers of your character, please contact staff at your leisure and they will aid you when they can.
