"We never knew where it came from. Earth was running out of resources: the continents were barren, the seas were drying up, and fresh water was a commodity afforded only by the rich. They took much of it with them when they went to their private heavens in the skies. The rest of us? We survived, but only just.
It was 2206 when it appeared. A shining, glimmering shape. It changed everything."
Humanity's legacy is dust. War upon war, depleted resources, global warming; in the end, humanity caused its own demise. The great exodus from Earth began in 2193 as the Antarctic ice shelves completely disappeared. The wealthy and powerful departed first, ascending to wondrous, orbiting space stations that loomed in the dim heavens above, leaving those who could not afford the ride to the skies to endure the worst water wars. From above, they watched the once green Earth become stained with a world-wide pox of wasteland. Though they loomed above the Earth, they too stood in awe of the wonder that appeared above the Pacific Ocean.
They called it Deus Pinnae
Nobody knew where it came from. The whirling, shining relic became the symbol of humanity's hope. From this cosmic, alien seed humans grew from a terrestrial species bound to its single star into a widespread, colonizing race. Technology advanced centuries overnight, unlocking the secrets of interstellar travel and communication. By reverse-engineering the Pinnae
and utilizing its contributions to sciences of all sorts, the breadth of the human condition grew along with its domain.
Centuries later, humans had all but forgotten the gift from the skies. Transplanted throughout the stars in a new age of illumination, the attributes of humanity may have changed, but it remains the same at its heart. A driven, ambitious species of individuals. Some crave power and thrive in industries of corruption. Others follow noble pursuits. Even still, there are those who simply wish to make do with what they have and build a life for themselves and those they care for.
The year is 2515.
We still haven't found who sent the Deus Pinnae
to our now barren rock.
