Welcoming to Different Skies, an original science-fiction roleplay. Please mind the air locks and try not to get stuck in a vacuum.

"Humanity can survive, my friends. But it will take effort and it will take sacrifice. But first, we must rebuild the wheel to study these assailants from beyond. Any piece, any fragment of the Deus Pinnae that rears its head will be ours. Yamata 16 can no longer afford to linger in the shadows. If we must, we will take all of Bastion space in our grasps and ravage it until every metal sliver of the Pinnae is revealed... By any means necessary."

Jonathan Langdon.

The following are playable locations on Different Skies. There are numerous other systems that are occupied and colonized by humans and Hephaesti, so you are welcome to make any up as you see fit for your characters and their origins. However, these listed include the primary locations for playable areas on the board. You may be from elsewhere, but they will not have their own individual forum.

B A S T I O N

Bastion is the epicenter of the board and the primary location of all play. Its skeleton is built upon an asteroid that was found orbiting the blue star Azure Centrum strategically located at the center of occupied space. The star system is known as the Azura System. As such, it was an inevitability that Bastion would become an important station. Construction of the Bastion station began in the year 2351. Fueled by the combined forces of human ingenuity, Hephaesti processing, and the purely communal drive (and money) to create a focal point for human governance, Bastion was continuously built up until the foundation of the station was finished in 2402. People were then allowed to move in and take up shop. After that, construction continued, expanding on the station like the individual pieces of an aggregate fruit.

Now, Bastion is the size of a small moon and is the melting pot of all human and Hephaesti cultures. It possesses an annual climate relative to its position around Azure Centrum, which has a year similar to Earth in the Sol System. Weather remains moderate and is primarily used for sanitation purposes (rain wash).

Bastion can host a maximum population of 14.2 Million but currently hosts 7.6 million.

AREAS WITHIN BASTION:

CORINTHIAN ARCH - Serving as the central hub of government for the known reaches of space, the Corinthian Arch is a wondrous spectacle of architecture. Built to serve as a fortified place for legislation, it is heavily fortified and requires every individual to be certified to enter.
    • WHITEHALL - The headquarters of Bastion's Security and Law Enforcement Division, Whitehall is located just outside the Corinthian Arch. Whitehall serves as SLED's primary base, although it has numerous stations throughout all of Bastion. All incidents, security matters, and agencies within SLED filter through here at one point or another.

    • PANTHEON - The epicenter of all political matters within Bastion and the occupied domains of space, the Pantheon is a looming, imperious building that imagines the stability of humanity's progress. Its halls are decorated with important works of art and human culture taken from Earth during the mass exodus.

    • Bastion Embassies - An immaculate cylinder-shaped building that serves as the offices of elected officials throughout occupied space nestled near the Pantheon.

THE MOORS - Every shop needs a parking lot. This holds true for Bastion. The Moors is an area where ships, both private and commercial, can weigh anchor and refuel. There is a heavy amount of trade and shipping here. Larger shipping freights can be found toward the outer rim of the Moors while privately owned ships can be found closer toward the inner ring.
    • Vespaport - An impressive network of constantly shifting honeycomb docking areas, the Vespaport is the primary docking area for interstellar ships. There are multiple areas for both privately owned vessels, commercial freighters, and military ships.

THE CARPEL - The main area of commerce and trade within Bastion, there are countless businesses and restaurants that appeal to every facet of human culture. You can find anything from plasma weapons to shawarma. It also serves as Bastion's industrial district, hosting the headquarters of many corporations.
    • Nelumbo Towers - A multi-towered series of buildings fused around a central tower, Nelumbo Towers is considered one of the focal points of Bastion life. It houses numerous different corporations and businesses. Consider this the mall of the future; anything and everything can be found here, save the seediest of affairs.

    • Gentech - The primary establishment of Genetech Industries is a resplendent building. The lower two levels are accessible to the public, offering a display of their Abiogenic technologies and implants, as well as agents for any individual seeking to be a little more than human. The upper levels are not open to the public.

    • OROCHI - Sequestered in the Carpel, Orochi is the Bastion headquarters of Yamata 16. It is not easily accessible by any but those who are part of the secret organization.

THE DREGS - Bastion's largest red light district, the Dregs offer a sordid look into modern, space-faring society. We are not without our stains... And the Dregs is rather messy.
    • XIBALBA - Aptly named for the sordid area in which it is stationed, Xibalba is a club that appeals to individuals of dissenting personalities and lifestyles. Mercenaries, fences, and smugglers often call this place home, although it is not unusual to see the occasional high-end person visiting its private rooms.

THE ESTATES - The main residential area of Bastion, it follows a typical gradient of higher-end towers to smaller, cramped spaces for lower income families.
    • Crystal Glades - A series of diamond-shape buildings which each have anti-gravity components, the buildings float, rotate, and shift into different nests, giving those who live there ever-changing views.

    • Olympus Mons - An incredible sphere-shaped construct within the Estates, it houses the most influential and powerful men and women of the galaxy who choose to live there.

    • Wealth of the Worlds - One of the most enchanting placess on Bastion, the Wealth of the Worlds is a sprawling park marked with the rise and fall of numerous bio-domes. Each houses a living representation of a planet that has been colonized by mankind.

Not to Solar Scale.

An occupied solar system found 6 LE from the Azura System, the Aeon system has three planets that orbit an average yellow star, Phorus. It's planets are Rubora (uncolonized), Magnus Prime (uncolonized but colonized moon, Magnus II), and Dagon (7 ringed planet, uncolonized).

MAGNUS II

A habitable moon that orbits Magnus Prime, Magnus II sports a wide variety of terrain and life. It's atmosphere is hospitable and by current calculations, resembles an Earth in the time of the dinosaurs. Its surface is covered in a mixture of tropical forest and wide plains. Spotted with several major cities, Magnus II is an active and productive part of occupied space. It also has a natural gravity of .9 Gs.

Sub-Locations:
    • Hedstrom - A sprawling city taller than it is wide, Hedstrom is considered Magnus II's capital. Skyscrapers reach into the heavens. As expected, the rich are on top and the poor are on the bottom. It is surrounded by a heavy wall, preventing Magnus II's occupants from the primal creatures of this alien world.

    • The Wilds - From the shores coated with a gelatinous membrane to the barnacle-like trees of the forest, the Wilds cover the world beyond the walls of Hedstrom.

TARTARUS

Adrift in the 7 rings of Dagon is Tartarus, an old spacestation that was once used in a similar manner as Bastion. Primarily a living station for colonials and scientists, Tartarus has since been reoccupied by men, women, and Hephaesti of notorious criminality. It is thought of as one of the main hubs of the black market and remains self-governing.

Sub-Locations:
    • Triple Point - Part illustrious strip club and part drug den, Triple Point is the hot seed of Tartarus where the bad go to party and the worse go to make business. The deep thrum of its music can be heard outside the building but one can find quieter rooms inside to tend to their affairs.

DAGON

A dark red gas giant with seven rings, it has eleven moons, all of which are only used to harvest resources. 2.1 Gs.

Not to Solar Scale.

A five-planet star system with an orange star, Radia, lingering in the Iota Draconis Nebulae, the Neuros system is a stable, but quiet solar system that was one of the more recently colonized.

HRIMPURSAR

An icy world found in the Neuros System, Hrimpursar was colonized for its rich deposits of metal. Its inhabitants live beneath the ice-sheets, where tectonically induced thermo-active vents provide heat and energy. Most inhabitants are miners.

Sub-Locations:
    • Ferrum - A subterranean colony sequestered beneath the ice shelves of Hrimpursar, Ferrum serves as one of the great mining centers of Hrimpursar. Countless networks of tunnels and passages extend outward from a central city of white steel into the depths of the planet.

SALACIA

A rich world of little land, Salacia is the closest planet resembling Earth in the Neuros System. What land does exist is almost always tropical. Salacia is known for its incredible, terrifying global hurricanes that cyclically rise every ten years and reshape the world's land masses. As a result, most populations are built upon massive floating cities.

Sub-Locations:
    • Victoria - The city of Victoria is the largest floating city on Salacia. Slowly drifting on the warm currents of the ocean world, it is a sprawling metropolis capable of withstanding the hemisphere-sized storms the planet conjures.

    • The Gilded Strand - One of the few pockets of land on Salacia, the Gilded Strand boasts shores of gold colored sand and crystal trees. Perfect for sunning or exploring the alien reefs off shore, it is an incredible hotspot for vacations in the galaxy.

FURNACE

Small and grey, Furnace has no moons and no atmosphere. Uninhabited and too close to the local star. .7 Gs.

THEUS

A dead, barren green planet, Theus has no breathable atmosphere. The atmosphere is corrosive. Unprotected vehicles or structures quickly become dangerously worn. Gravity: 1.1 Gs.

While Theus does not boast atmospheric conditions conducive to life, it does have one stable biome. This biome serves as a penal colony for Bastion space criminals. However, only the worst of the worst are sent here. This penal colony is called the Dukkha Colony. Convicted psychopaths, men and women of dangerous elements, serial killers or worse are sent to Dukkha in order to endure an ingrained rehabilitation. The Dukkha Colony is designed to give the men and women the tools they need to survive in a communal environment, forcing dependency on one another. While it receives cargo shipment, its occupants must farm and product their own food, create their own shelters; essentially, it encourages cooperation for survival. Since Dukkha has no proper guards or security, its inmates are in charge. Those who go against the grain and cost resources usually find themselves in an incinerator. Despite this, looming threat, many persevere to retain and enjoy a lifestyle. Those who survive their terms are returned to Bastion-space and reintegrated into society.

The Dukkha Colony is not the only penal colony, but it is the only one within playable space and it is regarded as one of the worst prisons to be sent to.

TRITON

Triton - A swirling, blue gas giant, Triton is the largest planet in the Neuros System. It has three moons, none of which are openly habitable ( two of which are colonized by bio-domes, though), but provide resources for Neuros and other systems. 2.4 Gs.

Moon names: Triteia, Aegae, and Celaeno.
